Everyone Needs Ted Lasso In Their Life

Ted Lasso is one of the most inspiring characters I’ve ever seen in a movie or TV show. I believe everyone, no matter how old or young, needs to watch this show. I’ll tell you why…

First, who is Ted Lasso?

What started as a character in a funny commercial turned into a full-blown Apple TV series.

Here’s the original commercial:

It played so well that NBC sports did another one the following year:

\

Ted Lasso is a fictional character that was created to promote NBC, a major US network, acquiring the rights to show the English Premier League in the US. Ted, played by Jason Sudekis, is an American college football coach who moves to England to become the head coach for a championship soccer team that’s competing to be in the top league in England. He is hired to coach AFC Richmond and despite being seen as an unsophisticated American who’s never coached soccer, he’s a lot smarter than he looks. He loves to coach and cares more about people than wins.

You can watch the trailer below:

Even if you’ve never watched soccer or don’t like sports in general, this show is still worth watching. I’ve watched hundreds of shows and movies in my life and yet I’ve never smiled more watching a show. In a world that feels so negative, particularly with Covid, the ongoing mental health pandemic and the isolation everyone is feeling, we all need a positive light in our lives that inspires us to be better.

Here’s what I learned from him:

Be positive and uplifting.

Stick to your principles.

Kill them with kindness.

Check your ego.

It’s always about the team, never the individual.

Sometimes the most unorthodox ways and perspective at looking at things are the most valuable. You can only change the game by taking a different perspective.

You will face heat and struggles throughout your journey. That’s ok. You have to believe in yourself and your ability to achieve success more than anyone else.

Ask everyone’s names. Get to know everyone in a specific place, even the people after hours who are cleaning the place. They matter just as much as you.

You never know where ideas are going to come from and oftentimes it’s the unlikeliest of places.

People will try and stab you behind your back. They’ll talk down about you and act differently when you’re not there. That’s ok. Keep going and keep being kind.

Be yourself, always, no matter how out of water you look.

Be confident in your ability to figure things out.

Get to know people personally and add a touch of what they like to your interactions.

Small gestures matter in the long run.

Best of all, have fun and keep smiling.

All from Ted Lasso.

An incredible show.

P.S. If you don’t have an Apple TV subscription, you can watch the show for free here or here

Keep going, you’re doing great
