Day 1418 - Aug.17.22 - Be appreciative of your grandparents
Enjoy the moments with friends and family because they’re so fleeting. People get older and life can change so quickly. Found out today my grandfather has heart failure and was started on medication. His mind has been steadily deteriorating the last few years since Covid and he feels like he’s on the last legs of his life. It’s hard to watch when this guy used to have the most energy out of everyone in the family and always kept himself busy. He started a temple by himself in the 80s and grew it into one of the largest temples in the community over the last few decades. He went multiple times a week, sometimes doing prayers for more than 24 hours at a time. Now he can barely walk properly, has lost most of his ability to speak English and even said to my dad today ‘what’s the point of all of this.’ It’s sad watching the role models in your life deteriorate but also a reminder of how amazing they are. Be appreciative he got to be a part of your life for so many years and helped raise you. Father time is undefeated and we’re all going to go one day. It’s sad watching him get closer to that day but also have to remember all the good times with him. Made so many memories with him and my grandma during Covid when I got to play cards with them twice a week for 18 months. Cherish those special moments with family, especially your grandparents, because you never know when it will be your last
