My Bucket List

My Bucket List

My Bucket List:

A few years ago I started writing a list on my notes app in my phone titled Life Goals.

After I had read Think and Grow Rich, I decided if I wanted to accomplish things in my life, I needed to put it down in writing and train my subconscious to believe that it could become reality.

It started with a mantra I say to myself when I wake up and go to bed every night.

‘I Anish Kaushal promise to earn x million dollars by the time I turn 40. I plan to do this by working in venture capital, selling a company and diversifying in stocks, bonds and real estate. I promise.’

I remember reading stories from the Secret and one that stands out is Jim Carrey’s story of how he wrote a cheque for 10 million dollars when he was starting out his acting career. Years later he received a cheque for much more than that. The essence of the story is its one example of putting down your dreams on paper and seeing them come to fruition.

Your subconscious builds that. Your brain interprets memories the same, whether they actually occurred in reality or not, so if you can get your subconscious to believe your goals, you will make them happen.

The point of these goals though is not the goal itself. If I never accomplish these goals, that’s ok because it’s the journey to get there. It’s the learning, failures, experiences and people you meet along the way that make it worth it.

Nonetheless, here’s the list from my phone, as well as a few add-ons that could happen.

Anish Life Goals:

·  Pay off my debt by 30

My parents afforded me the opportunity to go to medical school abroad and it’s really expensive. When I left medicine, I knew I’d have to pay off this debt and I’m going to pay it all off, hopefully soon if the market crashes.

·  Go on a business class flight from New York to Singapore

My dad loved planes growing up and he always knew the answers to how long flights were between different parts of the world. The longest flight in the world is New York to Singapore, about 18.5 hours, at least when we were growing up. I’ve always had this dream of doing that flight in business class.

·  Have a house with a full length basketball court

Pretty self-explanatory but want to own a house where I have my own full length basketball court.

·  Have the greatest bed and shower ever

If you think of how much time you spend in a bed and shower in your lifetime, it’s insane to me that more people don’t spend more money on getting the absolute best of these.

·  Go to the World Cup Final

To watch the pinnacle of the world, the greatest event on the sports calendar, would be a dream come true. I’m gonna do it when it comes to the US in 2026, no matter the cost.

·  Go to an NBA finals – done

Thank you Raptors.

·  Go to a Wimbledon Final

Tennis was a big part of my life growing up. Still have a Nadal mural in my childhood bedroom. Wimbledon is the pinnacle of the tennis world in my opinion so seeing a final on that centre court would be so special.

·  Go to the Super Bowl

Pretty self explanatory, but hope to do it the year the Ravens make it.

·  Have a sick den with a massive TV and huge bar

Everyone needs their own space and I intend to build mine into the best hangout room for me and my friends.

·  Go to the Masters

Self explanatory but going to golf’s number 1 event, especially if I can take my dad, would be incredible.

·  Be worth x millions dollars in my lifetime

Goes back to the mantra I say every day. I started saying that to myself 2.5 years ago in October 2018 and never could’ve thought some like that could happen. Now I’m convinced, I’m gonna get there.

·  Own an NBA team

Basketball was my first love. If I had the privilege of owning a team, even if it’s the tiniest minority, I’m going to do it.

·  Marry a beautiful and intelligent woman

Everyone needs a support system and I hope to have an exceptional person by my side as I navigate this crazy thing we call life.

·  Finance a movie

Spent years obsessing over TV, movies and the entertainment industry, so to be able to finance a movie would be awesome.

·  Run a marathon by 30

Was going to do this in 2020 but Covid got in the way. All good, I’ll definitely get this done in the next 4 years.

·  Write a book

Decided I wanted to be a writer a few years back, and I’ll definitely get there. May even be this year depending on how the market shapes up.

·  Give a TED talk

Grew up watching Ted conferences in my spare time. There’s so much knowledge Ted speakers have imparted the world and it would be an absolute dream to give a talk at the real TED conference.

·  Go to space

People are going to space this next decade, likely with Virgin Galactic. Costs are high now but they will come down over time and as soon as I can comfortably afford it, I’m going. We all need to expand our idea of the world and universe, and space is the ultimate frontier for that.

·  Get in a room with Drake and speak to him properly

Drake is one of my idols. He’s reached the apex of his industry and did it all being a kid from Toronto. He’s inspired me to push my boundaries of what I can accomplish, and I hope to speak to him about his journey one day.

·  Build a personal library of books I’ve read

In my house, probably as part of my den, I’m going to build a massive library of all the books I’m reading. I’m at 150 so far on my goodreads so look forward to buying all of these and putting them in a library.

·  Meet Yes Theory and Gary Vee

Can’t overstate how important these guys have been to my life, especially when I was leaving medicine. I know this is going to happen. In touch with Yes Theory’s manager already and sent info to VaynerMedia about the market crash, so hopefully this happens sooner than later.

·  Finish an Ironman

An Iron man is the ultimate personal test of strength and resilience. I want to reach that peak one day.

·  Be on Forbes 30 under 30

This one is less important to me now but still would be pretty cool. Adds extra credibility. Gets me into rooms and talking to people I normally wouldn’t. The recognition though is less important because it’s become a list of hundreds of people now around the world. It’s a branding thing for Forbes, which is fine, but not the same weight as what it held before.

·  Go to the Monaco and Singapore for the Grand Prix

Drive to Survive got me into F1 and looking at the race calendar, these two are the biggest races in the world with the best parties. I’ll get there one day.

·  Get invited to the google camp retreat

Google does this annual retreat where they invite some of the best and brightest minds around the world on a weekend retreat. I’d love to get invited that one day, just to listen and learn from everyone else.

·  Buy a Jacob and Co Watch

Less important. Saw these watches for the first time in Vegas a few years back and they’re works of art. To own a 1 of 1 Jacob and Co watch would be amazing, although I’d probably never wear it because it’s worth so much money.

·  Learn how to fly a helicopter

I don’t know if I want to do this anymore because of what happened to Kobe, but learning how to fly one would be cool.

·  Learn how to play drake songs on the piano

Drake was a role model, his songs are so important to me, and learning them at a performance level would be awesome.

·  Go a yacht party hosted by a friend

Hoping I meet a lot of cool rich people the next few decades and I get invited to a yacht party one of these days, not just by some random dude but someone I could call a friend.

·  Buy dadda a plane

My dad’s been obsessed with planes since he was a kid. Explains a lot of why we traveled growing up. Told him once I make it big I’ll get him his own so hopefully I get there.

·  Go on a meditation retreat

Meditation, journaling and writing changed my path in October 2018 so being able to go on a retreat is something I will do at some point.

·  Go skydiving – done

Did it for my 25th birthday. Incredible experience I’d love to do again.

·  Get a scuba license

Just a checklist as an add on so if I wanted to scuba dive at the Reef in Australia or with hammerhead sharks in Galapagos, I can do that.

·  Own a game worn Kobe Bryant jersey

My hero and idol. Need to have something of his in my possession.

·  Have a world record

Because why not?

·  Meet Chamath

As much flack as he takes for bringing retail into bad trades in the short term with some of his SPACs, he was the one who got me into investing. Watching his talk at Stanford completely changed the way I think about the world. The goal now is to make a lot of money to support causes I believe in and make a much bigger impact. Chamath’s probably going to lose a lot of cash in the short term given his SPACs but long term I believe he’ll be proven right.

·  Own a Banksy

One of the most important artists in my opinion. Saw a lot of his work at his museum in Amsterdam and decided I’d like to have one of his pieces.

·  Go in a hot air balloon

Because hot air balloons are sick.

·  Bennford’s law conference

This law completely tripped me out. It’s an observation of the frequency of distribution of leading digits in many real-life sets of numerical data. Just to go to the conference to hear people talk about it would be cool.

·  Have a Wikipedia page

Wikipedia is one of the great measures of success in my mind so to get my own page would be sick.

·  Run my own fund, whether it be a hedge fund or family office

Decided on this recently. I believe my knowledge of the world and investing is superior to most others and I’m happy to put my ideas against anyone. Right now I have no evidence I have superior judgement because I just started investing, but this next decade will be telling. I’ve made my bets, I’ve talked about how I see the world in the next few years and if these things come to fruition, this goal doesn’t seem so far-fetched.

***

This is a list of the life goals I have so far. I’m sure these will change a lot over time but I’m glad I’m putting this down in writing for me and everyone else to see.

Maybe I’ll get to all of these someday. Maybe I won’t.

No matter, it won’t be for lack of trying.
