Day 754 – Day 248 Q – Nov.13.20 – Be different

Be different. You need an outsider’s perspective in order to change the way things are done. People love attaching themselves to the status quo & policies/procedures that have existed for a long time. People like that, it keeps them comfortable. Any time you want to change something or do something a different way, it makes them uncomfortable. People don’t like being uncomfortable. Why? It’s a combination of so many things. Of bias, of their life experience, of the way things are and the way they used to be. This idea of comfort gives them more peace than the idea of change. Yet change is how you get growth. Does this mean people don’t want to grow? Well it depends how they perceive it. Many people like the idea of growth, of improvement, of being better but they don’t want to go through the failure and hardship to make it a reality. With growth, you need to be told you’re wrong. People don’t like this. Why? Because if you tell someone their opinion is wrong, they think they're wrong. They perceive that as an attack on their identity. But an opinion is not an identity. Yet people choose to attach themselves to this identity that their opinions on a specific view are who they are. Which is semi true, but not really. People are so much more than their opinions; they’re a function of their actions. But people are reluctant to understand that. Yet you need people who push back, go against the grain and challenge what exists. How are you supposed to innovate without change and looking like a fool? Be different.
