Don’t self-censor:
Don’t self-censor.
Don’t hold yourself back.
Push the boundaries of your own thinking.
Do it for yourself, not your audience.
Look at things from a different perspective.
Take a unique point of view.
It’ll be lonely at times and you will go through many ups and downs.
Just stay consistent and keep pushing your thinking.
Keep improving on your craft.
Comment on the state of the world.
Cut through the bullshit.
Don’t believe the government, the media, your parents or your friends.
Think for yourself.
Learn about how the world really works, not the one you’re told.
A very small group of people runs the whole world.
They’ll do everything to keep the population uninformed.
They don’t want thinking people.
They want dumb mobs.
They want to distract people from asking questions.
They don’t want people who think critically about issues.
They want yes men.
They want people who believe the bullshit they’re given every day.
Who don’t spend time on themselves but continue to be brainwashed by what they see.
There will be many highs and lows as you go through your journey.
Never discount the family and friends along the way.
Be careful with drugs, they can really fuck you up.
They can be brutal to you and your family.
Check-in on your relationships.
Be there for people.
Don’t overwork yourself.
Don’t forget about people as you ascend.
Because you will inevitably be back at the bottom soon enough.
The people who ride with you throughout those tough moments are the ones you have to hold closest.
Don’t take your family for granted, ever.
Don’t bottle your feelings.
Let go.
Don’t push anything down.
Understand how you were brought up.
Understand your own mind.
Really feel your feelings and talk about them.
Even if it’s not to the people that deserve to hear it, get it out of your head.
Constantly re-invent yourself.
Constantly push the boundary of what you can speak about.
Shock yourself.
Go in different directions.
There will be people who have an expectation of your old stuff.
Don’t mind them, the ones who want to be there will.
Not everyone will like your stuff and you’ll be in the middle of controversy.
Don’t mind it.
It means you’re doing something right.
It means people are scared of you.
They’re scared of the power you hold.
The power of the written word.
The power of the truth.
Keep speaking the truth.
Speak truth to power.
No matter how many of them hate you, don’t stop.
Don’t self-censor.
Thought about all of this while watching George Carlin’s American Dream, a documentary about his life.
What a complicated human being who was a legend of comedy.
I miss you George, wish you were here today to speak about the craziness going on in our world.
Hope you’re still calling out the bullshit wherever you are.
Thanks for sharing your gift.
I hope to do the same one day.
