Dream the biggest dreams you can dream
You have to dream the biggest dreams you can dream.
The subconscious mind is a weird concept. It’s the underbelly of your mind that controls a lot of your decisions without you even knowing. Experiences from when you were a kid shaped your subconscious mind in a specific way. How you developed as a child had a profound impact on where you ended up. Because what you saw was considered normal, you don’t know any different.
If you grow up in a household where all you see is drugs and crime, it’s likely you’ll be doing that when you’re an adult because that seems normal. That’s all you’re exposed to. You don’t know any different.
If you grow up in a household where you're traveling on private jets, living in multimillion dollar mansions and have extremely wealthy parents, what you think is normal is very different. Your view of real life for most of the world is distorted, especially if these are the only experiences you’ve had. If you’ve never gone to a third world country and seen the poverty that exists in other places, you wouldn’t know what else is happening in the world.
One of my favourite paradoxes ‘you are everything and you are nothing.’ You think the world revolves around you and what’s directly in front of you. But you’re also one person on a planet of billions of people at one point in time in history. The earth is one planet in a solar system that’s part of a galaxy which is part of the endless universe. You and I don’t really matter. Our lives are probably insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
So why are you letting other people stop you from achieving your dreams? Why are you letting people pollute your mind to tell you not to pursue your dreams? People are paralyzed by fear and what other people will think of them when they do something different. Newsflash, no one cares. No one cares about what you’re doing.
They’re not thinking about you and what you’re doing in your spare time. So why are you letting their opinions of you matter more than your own opinion of you? Why are you letting other people’s opinions of you stop you from doing something?
One thing about the most successful people in the world - they did the work. They put in the time every day to be great. But they also failed a ton. They tried things that seemed abnormal. They took risks. And they kept going. They just kept failing over and over again until one thing hit.
You have to be opportunistic. You have to take risks. You have to look like a fool working on something for years at a time without any results. You have to do it for you. You have to decide that you want to do something with your life and then you have to put in the time to do it.
This is why I love entrepreneurs and the environment it fosters. It’s a risk taking business. People are putting their livelihood on the line to create something around an idea they had. This is where a lot of the innovation has come from. Capitalism in this sense works because the incentives make sense when someone is so personally invested in something.
Right now I’m doing all this writing just to see what happens. At the beginning it started as a diary to myself, just to see what I was thinking at this moment in time so I can look back 5 years from now. To see if the things I’m writing make sense and actually happen like you think, or are completely off.
Now it’s morphed into something where I know through learning about the creator economy, you can leverage your attention on the Internet to make money full time. It’s the ultimate risk. It’s the ultimate bet on yourself because you could end up with nothing.
Yet I know in my life, anything I’ve committed to seriously I can achieve.
Either way, don’t let any of this stop you from achieving your dreams. Dream the biggest dreams you can, tell yourself it every single day, believe it for long enough, and you’ll get there.
Trust me, it’s working.
