May.8.24 - Day 2047 - You’re not always right

Why won’t you change your mind? Why? What’s holding you back from seeing a different perspective? Is it the media? How you were raised? What your parents told you about the world? What you see on TV? Why? Why are you attached to your beliefs? Why do you conflate them with your identity? Why are you so set on the world working the way you see it? Why? What if it didn’t? What if the story you told yourself about the world was wrong? What then? Would it destroy you? Would it make you question everything? Good. It should. You should always be open to people with different viewpoints and perspectives even if it’s so far away from yours. There’s a lot to learn from people you disagree with. Listen to them. Understand them. Don’t rush to judgment, even if it’s what you’ve done your entire life. It’s hard because that’s our default response. Judge. Even if we don’t have context or the whole story. Jump to a conclusion based on your opinion of the world, not anyone else’s. Stop doing that. You’re not always right. You don’t have everything in life figured out, even when you think you do.l Your perspective of the world is not the only one, even if you think it is. If you’ve never even tried something before, why are you rushing to judgment on what someone else is saying if you’ve never experienced it yourself. Stop. Listen. Reflect. Think. Unlearn. Learn. Be curious. You should always be open to changing your mind.
