Walk to the beat of your own drum:
Walk to the beat of your own drum.
Don’t expect anyone to hold your hand and tell you you’re doing a good job.
Posted my 500th blog post today across my social media profiles and got nowhere near the response I expected.
This is the underlying problem – what I expected.
Don’t expect anything.
Never assume that what you do will be well received.
Most of the time it won’t.
It might be by those close to you, which is all that should matter, but don’t expect others to love what you’re doing.
You don’t need anyone else’s approval.
You need your own.
As long as you’re happy living the life you are doing the things you are doing, no one else’s opinion matters.
But it’s very hard to get to that point.
Humans are social creatures.
We crave validation even if we tell ourselves we don’t need it.
It’s so hard in today’s society as well with people associating approval with likes.
Just because someone has thousands of followers or likes does not make them any better or worse than you are.
Yet for so many that’s the barometer for success.
Reframe your idea of success.
Don’t let the outcomes dictate the work.
Continue to show up no matter what people say about your work.
Commit to the work.
Commit to the process.
Commit to the grind.
Be proud of your work and what you’ve created.
Don’t look for validation.
Appreciate it if it comes, but don’t expect it to happen.
Sometimes it’s better to be misunderstood.
While the rest of the world is too focused on themselves, you’re the one improving every day getting one day closer to reaching your potential.
Focus on yourself.
You don’t need to listen to anyone else’s drum.
Walk to the beat of your own drum.
