Success is fleeting:
Success is fleeting.
Here one moment, gone the next.
When you taste it, it makes you feel invincible.
It makes you believe that you were the only onen responsible.
But you weren’t.
Luck, timing and many others play a huge factor in it.
Yet when you have people around you telling you how great you are, it can make you believe your own bullshit.
It can make you feel like you’re better than other people.
Like you have some god-given gift that no one else has.
Nah.
You worked hard, got lucky and tasted some success.
Good for you.
Now work twice as hard to get back.
Work three times as hard to stay there.
The higher you go, the more you have to fall.
On top of the world one moment, at the bottom the next.
Like Will Smith right now after his Oscars slap.
Spent the last few years building his social media brand, coming up with a Youtube strategy, launching a book, jumping out of a plane over the grand canyon, and documenting his journey.
All gone now because of one moment.
One moment of impulse and poor decision-making.
He’s seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows in his career so I’m sure he’ll bounce back.
But it will be his toughest challenge yet.
All that success he built up over a career was gone in an instant in some people’s eyes.
On his obituary, that’s how some will remember him.
For a moment of regret and impulse.
For all that he’s done, he could be remembered for one bad moment.
You will have those in your life.
Like Will, you will have those moments of impulse and regret.
When you’re mind is not thinking logically and you act out of character.
It’s ok, we all do.
No matter what, stay consistent.
Focus again on the work and not on the perceptions.
Apologize, learn your lesson and move on.
You can’t change the perception of what other people think of you.
They will judge you for a single moment because that’s what social media is these days.
It drives traffic.
Negative stories sell more than positive ones.
Don’t mind it.
Focus on reflecting, learning the lessons life has to teach you and doing better in the future.
The journey to success is filled with bumps and bruises.
Every time you think you’ve made it, something will happen that will send you right down to the bottom.
No problem.
As long as you’re enjoying the journey, improving a little bit every day and staying healthy, you’re already successful.
Be ready for the journey because success is fleeting.
