We need community

We need community:

We need community.

We need it.

We need people around us.

Those who believe in us.

Those who are there for us.

Those who care for us.

Relationships are so important.

Long term relationships are vital to living a good life.

People underestimate them.

They don’t commit to them.

They don’t invest in them.

They don’t water them.

They don’t understand.

You will only go so far by yourself.

There’s a famous African proverb - ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to far, go together.’

It’s so true.

You need people.

You need a network.

You need others.

Ben Franklin talked about this centuries ago.

Junto groups.

Groups that met and just chatted.

Chatted about life.

About what they were working on.

About what they were learning about.

Those groups changed the course of history.

We need that.

Even in a technology and AI world, relationships will never disappear.

You could be the best technologist of all time.

If you can’t develop relationships, you’re screwed.

You can’t replace EQ.

You can’t replace emotional intelligence.

You can’t replace in-person interaction.

And it’s hard.

It’s hard to find your people.

It’s hard to find people that care about you.

It’s hard to find people you get along with.

It’s hard to find people that are there for you.

It’s hard.

I get it.

Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t stop searching.

Relationships are everything.

Your network is everything.

You will only go as far as your network.

You need people who push you.

Who challenge you.

Who are invested in you.

But also those who are ambitious.

Who are hard working.

Who are driven.

Who are fun.

You need them.

My dad taught me that first.

Summit confirmed that for me.

Life is so much better if you’re enjoying it with interesting people.

You can have all the money in the world.

You can’t replace good relationships.

No matter who or where you are, invest in relationships.

Invest in other people.

Learn about them.

Be curious about them.

Talk to them from a non-judgemental place.

Think how you can help them.

Open your network.

Don’t be transactional.

Be patient.

Check in.

Then watch.

Those people will change your life in ways you can’t imagine.

Relationships are everything.

Community is everything.

We need community.
