You can never keep up

You can never keep up

November 2, 2023

You can never keep up:

You can never keep up.

Ever.

You can’t know everything.

Impossible.

You can’t care about everything.

Impossible.

Our brain wasn’t evolved to receive this amount of information.

All.

The.

Time.

We evolved over thousands of years to process little bits of information.

Learn what’s around you.

Survival.

Finding food.

Providing for your family.

Living off the land.

Socializing.

Interacting.

Having lots of downtime.

Lots of it.

Literally most of your life.

But that’s all changed.

Thanks Internet.

For good and bad.

There is so much to know now.

So much.

I always feel like I’m behind.

Like there’s more to understand.

Like there’s more to comprehend.

Like there’s more to learn.

Twitter, Facebook and Instagram constantly bombarding you with info.

Never stops.

Your algorithm is built by you for you.

Little bits of psychology and billions of dollars of venture capital money have hooked you so you have to know about everything.

You have to watch.

You constantly have to be stimulated.

Have to be in know.

Have to be up to date.

With your favourite celebrity.

With your favourite show.

With your favourite athlete.

You just have to know what’s going on with them, right?

No.

We didn’t evolve for this.

We evolved for downtime.

And reflection.

And thinking.

And processing.

And observing.

The world around us.

Not the one on a screen.

We’re losing the battle.

We’re losing the fight.

We’re losing the war to these companies.

You can’t beat them.

They’re too good.

So what can you do?

Leave.

Step away.

Get back to your life.

The one in front of you.

Figure that out.

Learn about that.

Invest in that.

Act on that.

Everyone on Instagram is fake.

Everyone on TikTok is fake.

Everyone on Twitter is fake.

They’re all portraits of our best times.

Not most times.

So don’t worry about them.

Or me.

Or anyone else.

Worry about you.

Focus on you.

Show up for you.

Learn about you.

Keep up with you.
