You gotta have fun:

You gotta have fun.

You have to.

You have to make life fun.

It’s so important.

We take life too seriously.

Think that we’re so important.

That what we do is important.

That who we are is important.

It’s not.

We’re just one of 8 billion people living on a galaxy filled with infinite stars.

We are so small.

And yet we are everything to ourselves.

And the people around us.

So make the most out of it.

You only get one.

You have to live it on your terms.

Doing what you want.

Enjoying what you do.

Having fun.

Alysa Liu personified this at the Olympics.

Her performance was incredible.

Epic.

Watch it here.

So electric.

But her story is better.

A child prodigy.

Someone who was pushed to skate.

Pushed so hard she left.

Went to university, climbed Everest and had fun.

Then she went skiing.

The adrenaline kicked in.

She wanted to be back on the ice.

But only on her terms.

On her conditions.

No one would control her.

Would decide who she would be.

No one would make her decisions.

She wanted control.

And she made sure to have fun.

To make it fun.

To enjoy it.

To find something hard enough to keep pushing.

But also something that she liked.

That made her laugh.

Made her smile.

Athletes take sports too seriously.

We all do.

But how much of it do you actually enjoy?

Remember.

The journey is the whole point.

Having fun along the way.

Happiness will not magically find you tomorrow.

It’s a choice.

It’s a decision.

Having fun is a decision.

Do things that are fun to you.

And never stop doing them as an adult.

Do more of them.

Treat yo self.

Have fun.

And if you don’t know how to have fun, figure it out.

Try things.

See what you like.

What feels like play but looks like work to everyone else.

This is it for me.

Writing.

This is fun.

Interesting.

I never know what I’m going to say.

Or how I’m going to come across.

Or what’s going to come next.

I just show up and write.

See where my mind takes me.

This is fun.

You can’t write 1250 blog posts, 2 books and 2700 journal entries unless you’re somewhat enjoying it.

Do I love it all the time?

No.

But that’s the point.

The love comes from the struggle.

From sitting there staring at a blank page.

Seeing what you can create.

What you can come up with.

Sometimes I forget.

Oftentimes, I forget what I’ve written.

But I re-read some of them and am shocked.

I want to hear this.

I want to read this.

I want to see this.

This stuff makes me better.

And it was all for fun.

To try something.

Started as an experiment after leaving medicine.

Started journaling.

Look where it’s taken me.

My goal is to be the most prolific writer of my generation.

Someone who’s created so much more than people could imagine.

I’m on my way there.

But I have so much work left to do.

That makes me excited.

That’s fun.

Challenging, but fun.

Ultimately you have to have fun.

You have to manufacture fun.

You need it.

Something to look forward to.

Life gets boring.

Mundane.

So figure out how you like to have fun.

And go do more of that.

Go be like Alysa Liu.

The new superstar who’s an incredible role model.

Congratulations Alysa.

Please never stop smiling.

Never stop being yourself.

Never apologize for who you are.

And always do it for the fun of the game.

Have fun.
