Day 1430 - Aug.29.22 - Listen before you judge

Do not let the opinions of others destroy your ability to think. Understand your own interpretation of the world and where all your biases, judgments and pre-conceived ideas come from before jumping to a conclusion. Even if you’ve derived a conclusion from first principles, it could still be wrong. Always open your mind to new ideas, even if they seem so outside of your own opinion of the world. Listen before you judge. Don’t jump to conclusions just because someone told you that was the truth. Investigate for yourself. In a society of 24/7 information overload, ruthlessly curate the voices you listen to. It’s your responsibility to control your own brain and thinking when companies have spent billions of dollars addicting you. Social media is cheap cocaine for the masses. Do not let it overtake your life because it can very easily. Learn to step away from your phone and eliminate distractions. Focus on deep work and doing what your heart wants. Don’t let it be polluted by the desires and opinions of others. You must hold your own opinions and ideas about yourself over anyone else’s ideas about you. Do not let your happiness be controlled by another person because you’ll never live up to their expectations of you. You will always be running on a hamster wheel of unhappiness if you’re constantly chasing what others want. Focus on yourself. Understand how you think. Learn how and why you are the way you are. That’ll get you closer to discovering your true self.
