Be a translator:
Be a translator.
Explain complicated subjects in simple words.
Examine subjects across disciplines and translate them.
Put them in words your younger self could understand.
Was just listening to Lex Fridman and Andrew Huberman.
Two guys with acclaimed podcasts.
Two guys at the top of their fields.
What do they do really well?
They meet interesting people.
They have interesting conversations.
They never stop learning.
They ask unique questions.
And they translate what someone else says.
They speak in a language people can understand.
Rogan does this the best.
Talks to whoever and tries to keep it as simple as possible.
Has interesting people across industries and wants to understand their perspective.
He’s genuinely curious.
But he’s also translating what they say into his own words.
By doing that, he helps the audience.
He feels relatable.
He feels like someone you can understand.
Too often we overcomplicate things.
We assign complicated jargon to simple ideas and concepts.
It makes us feel smarter.
Makes us feel like we know what we’re doing.
The smartest people are those who can explain things simply.
That’s what you should aim for.
Go deeper.
Understand it.
But then write it out.
Explain it to someone.
Dumb it down.
Imagine you were explaining it to yourself in high school.
How would you speak to that person?
If you can explain it like that, then you get it.
If you can’t, go back.
We need more people to simplify things.
To get to the bare bones and explain things simply.
Listening to some of my investing heroes like Dalio, Druckenmiller, Grantham, and Rogers reminds me.
These guys are geniuses.
They can explain their beliefs so simply and their track record backs it up.
When it’s a person of credibility who explains concepts simply, pay attention.
It means you’re listening to an important voice.
Maybe I’ll get there one day.
Till then, all I’m trying to do is…
Be a translator.
