Consistency is hard:
Consistency is hard.
It’s hard to do something again and again.
Not for a month. Not for a year. Not for 10 years. But multiple decades.
That’s very hard.
It’s why Warren Buffet is so impressive.
He’s done this for 50+ years.
Through everything.
Through all the great times and all the terrible times.
My guess is the only way he’s done it?
He never stops learning.
He’s committed to the process every day.
The consistency.
The maniacal obsession.
Because that’s what it takes to be great.
The grind never stops.
You can never stop learning.
The world is a pretty crazy place and the more you learn about it, especially through reading, the more you realize how little you know.
However, what reading allows is you to connect ideas and concepts between multiple disciplines.
It allows you to connect the dots in some ways.
Even then though, the real world is very different than books.
You still have to do the work.
You have to be consistent.
Greatness is consistency over long periods of time.
The reason the best athletes in the world are the best is because of the commitment.
They know how hard it is to get to the top and the work it takes to get there.
It’s maniacal.
Always loved that Kobe story during a Team USA practice.
The dude basically practiced from 5 am to 11 am straight before a practice.
This is after winning multiple titles.
He never stopped.
He stayed consistent.
Again and again over long periods of time.
Forgetting about the outcome and focusing on the work.
Because you can always be better.
You can always do more.
Stop letting your brain tell you otherwise.
Stop letting you hold yourself back from reaching your potential.
But you have to do the work.
You have to struggle.
You will fail.
Again and again.
Just keep doing the work.
Stay consistent.
No matter how difficult it is.
No matter the good and the bad.
Continue to show up and do the work.
It doesn’t mean it gets easier.
Every time I stare at a blank page, I still get nervous.
‘Are people going to like this?
Is anyone going to read this?
Am I crazy?’
All these subconscious beliefs keep popping up.
‘You’re not good enough.
You haven’t done anything.
Who cares about the past.’
Your subconscious makes you doubt yourself.
Don’t worry about the doubt because it never goes away.
Just commit to the work.
The process of getting better.
So don’t listen to the negative inside you telling you ‘you can’t do something.’
You can do whatever you want.
You just have to put in the work.
Consistency is hard.
