Dear Sachit:
Dear Sachit,
I miss you man.
I love you.
Wish you were here.
Wish you were celebrating with us in Ottawa this weekend.
It’s been almost 4 years since you were gone and not a day goes by that I don’t think about you.
Think about the person you were.
The man you became.
You were my role model.
The guy I looked up to.
You always used to say my dad was your role model, but you were mine.
You did everything right.
Checked every box.
Took every risk.
Planned everything properly.
When life happened, and it was sadly taken away from you.
I miss you.
I miss you a lot.
I miss you all the time.
You’ll be happy to know that your family is doing well.
As well as they could be.
Ravi is awesome.
What a firecracker that guy is, in the best way possible.
One of my favourite memories with him is when my dad and I took him to the aquarium in Toronto.
He was running around the whole place, so much so my dad couldn’t keep up.
We may or may not have lost him for a few minutes, but he was just chilling watching the fish.
Watching the world go by.
I wish you were there with him.
You’ll also be happy to know about crypto.
The field you spent so much time on.
The niche weird industry that is not so niche and weird anymore.
Remember many conversations you had with me all the way back in 2013 to convince me that this industry was real.
That Bitcoin wasn’t a fad.
Man, is it more real than you can imagine.
Bitcoin recently hit $120k US.
I remember when you told me to get it when it was less than $100.
Man do I regret that today.
I remember when you told me you started a crypto ATM business.
And when you said ETH was going to be the next big thing.
So much so that you had the guy who bought Beeple’s 69M NFT sleeping on your couch way back in the day.
You were way ahead of your time.
Always had been.
Then Flosonics came around.
The idea you had with your buddies to create a device that measured fluid volume.
I remember being in med school when you started the company and you showing me your first prototype.
Even remember you walking me through your Excel model, us debating the best pricing strategy and going through medical device regulations in the US.
Now look where it is.
I met your co-founders late last year after they had raised their recent round of financing and now they’re scaling the product all over the world.
Knew how much of an impact you were making when I saw a friend from med school a year ago at a wedding.
He’s an ER/ICU doctor in New York and he was telling me about how he’s using your device every day in his hospital.
Says it’s a game changer for their practice.
Partly thanks to you man.
You made that happen.
You were always thinking about the future.
Thinking about how you could build one to make humanity better.
And you have.
You saw things that other people couldn’t.
You created a reality that didn’t exist and now it’s making a massive impact on people’s lives.
I learned about the future from you.
Not only that, but also learning to enjoy the moment.
Learning to have fun.
You were the first person who ever had a conversation with me about alcohol and partying in university.
Still remember the conversation we had in your car on the way to your condo where you told me about handling alcohol.
About drinking with your friends.
About finding people you’re comfortable with when you get to uni.
I want to tell you I did that and more.
Found brothers for life in university, partly through drinking/partying.
Even went to one of their weddings this past week in Jordan.
But it was more than just alcohol.
It was also about food.
You were one of the first people I ever spoke to who talked about food in a different way.
It wasn’t just eating a random meal.
It was an experience to be shared with those you love.
Going to Michelin-star restaurants.
Traveling the world.
Doing research on the best chefs all over.
Still remember you telling me about your trip to South America where you went to some of the best restaurants in the world.
It was what you chased.
What drove you to work harder.
It’s been the same for me.
Been fortunate to have had several different Michelin star meals all over the world, and every time I walk into a restaurant, I think of you.
One of the greatest meals I ever had was at David Toutaint, a 2 star michelin restaurant in Paris where the entire meal was vegetarian.
It was so good that I told my friend ‘This is a religious experience. I want to work harder so I can do this again.’
Chasing those experiences is thanks to you.
Your impact is beyond imaginable.
Not just for me, but for all the people you crossed paths with around you.
I know everyone has a story to tell about how you helped them or what you taught them or how you made their lives a little bit better.
That’s my goal too.
To leave a lasting impact on people’s lives so that they remember you long after you’ve gone.
It’s part of why I did this Ironman.
This journey to complete one of the toughest endurance races in the world.
3.8k swim.
180k bike.
42k run.
Even writing these numbers sounds nuts to me.
All of it sounded insane when I decided to sign up for this journey just under a year ago.
Decided I would do this not just for me, but also on behalf of you.
My original goal was to raise $10,000, which I thought would be really difficult.
But I sit here today having raised over $17,000, a number I never thought possible.
It’s all thanks to the people around us, the family and friends who have seen us grow up.
They deserve so much of the credit for getting me here and supporting me throughout this journey.
Thank you everyone.
But to you Sachit
I just wanted to say thank you man.
Thank you for inspiring me.
Thank you for pushing me.
Thank you for being in my life.
So many memories, experiences and accomplishments I’ve had are because of you and your impact on me.
Your life and death taught me that we only have one.
One chance.
One opportunity.
One life.
And it can all be taken away so soon.
So why not live a life you’re proud of?
Why not live a life full of experiences and challenges?
Why not build the future you want to see?
You taught me that and so much more.
Hope I’m making you proud.
Wish you were here man.
But I know you’ll be with me every step of the way in Ottawa.
When I’m suffering through race day and want to quit, I’ll be remembering your smile and laugh.
Hope you’re smiling up there.
Love you dude.
