Dec.15.22 - Day 1538 - Genius is different
Genuis is fleeting. Here one day, gone the next. But those that were touched by it never forget. It stays with them forever. To transcend yourself is to have people discuss your work decades or generations after you’ve passed away, or if you’re lucky enough, while you’re still alive. You don’t know what genius looks like till it hits you in the face and blows you away. Genius also takes time. No one is considered a genius in the moment. It’s only through the passage of time do we look at the body of work someone produces and consider them a genius. In the moment it looks weird. It feels different. It feels outside any preconceived box that we put it in. Genius is different. Genius is boundary-pushing. Genius is supposed to be polarizing and uncomfortable when you first encounter it. Genius also touches people across cultures and races. It’s not temporary but lives on for a long time. Appreciate genius and do everything you can to go out and learn from it. They are few and far between yet when you pay attention to their journeys, their similar. Got all of this while watching Marley, the documentary about Bob Marley and his life. What an incredible genius that was gone far too soon. But his music still lives on and will live on forever. He spoke to the people. He touched them all over the world. Thanks for showing your gift to the world.
