How do you get over doubt:
How do you get over doubt?
Got this question recently in a conversation with a mentee.
You don’t.
Doubt always exists.
Self-doubt is always there.
She asked me the question in the context of my career.
Going from graduating medical school to becoming a VC to being where I am now.
How did I get over the fear and external pressure of doubting myself?
You don’t.
You just persist.
You just show up and do the work.
You don’t know what will come from it, but if you show up, work hard and keep going, beautiful things can happen.
Self-doubt never goes away.
Even after producing close to 900 blog posts in the last few years, the doubt never stops.
Every time I open a new page, I’m filled with self-doubt.
It’s a constant battle.
Imposter syndrome is real.
All you can do is show up.
Again and again.
That doubt never goes away but over time you learn to deal with it.
You learn to understand it.
You learn to appreciate that every single person has it.
The difference between those who are successful and those who aren’t is they act.
They show up.
They do something about their doubt.
They persist and act even when their mind is telling them to do the opposite.
Conquer your mind and you’ll conquer doubt.
Act and the doubt will slowly disappear.
