The endless loop

The endless loop

The endless loop:

The endless loop.

Mobile apps.

One to the next.

From Instagram to Tik Tok to Facebook to Twitter to Hinge to Bumble to Candy Crush to pick your favourite app.

Constantly moving from one to the other.

How did we get so trapped?

How did we get so addicted?

How did we get so caught up in bullshit?

Billions of dollars in venture capital money, the smartest engineers and brilliant psychologists designed these apps to addict your attention.

That’s the game these days.

Attention.

Always has been, always will be.

Those who control the most attention do the best.

Those who can’t, fall off.

TikTok is owning the battle, especially among young people.

Hundreds of millions of people around the world.

All endlessly scrolling.

Passing time.

Enjoying themselves.

But also missing reality.

Missing the moment.

Missing what’s in front of them.

Taking themselves out of the moment and into the digital world.

A world that is so enticing.

So interesting.

So exciting.

But is it?

Is it more important than the present?

More important than what’s in front of you?

More important than your family?

Than your friends?

For most, it is.

It is everything.

All consuming.

I hate it.

I hate how we’re so caught up in it.

So influenced by it.

So separated by it.

So polarized by it.

All our algorithms are different.

So we’re all living in different worlds.

It feels like my world is the only world.

But it’s not.

There are so many others.

You can’t see that on your phone.

You need to live.

You need to experience.

You need to get outside of your bubble.

Go try something new.

Go fail.

Go look like an idiot in something.

Stop being scared.

Failure is how you succeed.

It’s an investment in yourself.

Investing your time in yourself instead of your phone is the greatest investment you’ll ever make.

Ever.

But you need to make the time.

You need to prioritize it.

You need to prioritize your own learning and self-development.

It’s not easy.

But boy is it worth it.

Once you start, keep going.

Consistently.

A little bit.

Every day.

The phone will still be there.

It’ll still consume you.

But now you have purpose.

Now you have direction.

Now you have something that is important to no one else other than you.

So run with it.

See where it takes you.

See how far you can go.

That’s one way to get out of the endless loop.
