Upgrade your software:
Upgrade your software.
Computers have two components - software and hardware.
Hardware is the parts of the computer.
Software is the system it runs on.
It’s similar to our brain.
Our hardware is our physical brain.
Our software is our thoughts.
Our neurons.
Our subconscious.
How does our software get built?
Where we’re born.
The environments we’re born into.
The people we have around us.
Our role models.
How we were raised from 0-5.
All of it.
But that blueprint is flawed.
It’s not in our control.
It’s not up to us what software gets downloaded in our brain.
It’s luck.
Some of us get very lucky.
Others not so much.
That doesn’t mean you can’t improve it.
It doesn’t mean you can’t change it.
It doesn’t mean you can’t upgrade it.
How?
Learning.
Unlearning.
Understanding your code.
Understanding your subconscious.
Think of your subconscious like code.
How do you de-bug it?
How do you understand it?
How do you process it?
Lots of ways.
Therapy.
Writing.
Psychedelics.
Meditating.
A combination of all of the above.
All help you understand your software a little better.
Why does this matter?
Why should we upgrade our software?
Because why not?
Don’t you want to understand yourself?
Don’t you want to be better?
Don’t you want to be a better friend, family member, colleague, and person?
To do this you must upgrade your software.
Endless learning.
Following your curiosities.
Challenging what you think is possible.
Going deep within your subconscious.
Within your brain.
Within your software.
Don’t expect it to happen overnight.
Our brains aren’t iPhone software updates that update while we’re asleep.
It takes time.
Slowly chucking along.
We’ve all seen those computer updates with the bar slowly moving.
That’s us.
The point is you should keep progressing.
You should keep moving that bar along.
Don’t judge yourself while you do it.
Don’t get down on yourself.
Don’t be self-critical.
Just keep moving.
1% better every day.
Little by little.
Then look back and see where you are.
You’ll be shocked how far you’ve come.
My software has been upgraded exponentially since I left medicine.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Please do the same.
For your sake and those around you.
We need more software updates.
Upgrade your software.
