Watch out America, the world is coming:
Watch out America, the world is coming.
Things are changing.
America is no longer the superpower they once were.
The world is catching up and now beginning to outshine them.
It’s happening in basketball.
The next decade, the best players in basketball won’t be from America.
Giannis.
Jokic.
Doncic.
Embiid.
And now this kid Wembenyama.
Assuming he stays healthy, he’s a game-changing generational talent.
As Woj put it, could add $500M in value to a single franchise.
Richard Jefferson said he would go number 1 if he was in the same draft as Lebron.
A tall lanky kid from France.
Finished the Redeem team documentary yesterday and it’s clear the next generation of megastars will be international.
It won’t be Americans.
It’s crazy to think about how far basketball has come.
How David Stern, no matter if you liked him or not, showed basketball to the world and marketed the product incredibly.
The reason all these guys make hundreds of millions today and their owners are worth billions is that basketball has become a world game.
Kids in China, Africa, India and South America can watch their favourite players on a screen and see that it looks like them.
Someone brown or chubby or too tall compared to everyone around them can grow up to be the best basketball players in the world.
It happened for Canadians with Vince Carter.
Vince and Nash inspired a generation of basketball players from Canada who believed they could make it on the biggest stage in the world.
There’s a great documentary about it, produced by Drake, called the Carter Effect. Worth watching.
Now imagine how many kids in Africa, Greece, or Serbia are watching these superstars destroy everyone else on the court.
They’re watching them be the best in the world.
It’s awe-inspiring because so many of the next generation won’t be from the US.
It’s now become the world’s game.
America will no longer be the leading basketball country in the world at the Olympics.
It’ll be a real tournament with real talent from a variety of countries competing to be the best.
America’s dominance in international basketball may soon come to an end.
It’s bittersweet watching all these guys from the Redeem team like Kobe, Melo, Wade and Lebron hang it up but also so exciting to watch the next generation of superstars be from elsewhere around the world.
I’m sure this is happening in multiple industries.
The companies and industries of the future will not be American.
Just know the Americans won’t go without it a fight - it’s all they know.
Watch out America, the world is coming.
