When it rains, it pours

When it rains, it pours:

When it rains, it pours.

Sometimes life becomes too much.

Too difficult.

Too much loss.

Too much grief.

Several people in your life all go.

It happened to our family in 2021.

Within 3 months, 3 people died.

One from dementia.

One from old age.

The other from leukemia.

3 people I knew my whole life were gone.

Just like that.

The two old people were hard.

But it wasn’t unexpected.

They lived a great life.

They had beautiful kids and grandkids who are good people.

But their time was up.

The last one that had leukemia, his life was cut short.

Dead at 33.

Had a kid a month before he got diagnosed.

2 years later, he was gone.

Just like that.

3 funerals in a few months.

That happens to people throughout their life.

Just when you think it’s bad, something else happens.

Life is always unexpected.

Things happen outside your control that change everything.

Losing your parents.

Losing friends.

Losing family.

Someone you were so close to, gone just like that.

Why does it feel like too much sometimes?

Why is it that several bad things happen in a row?

Why does life test us like that?

Sadly there’s nothing you can do about it.

You can’t control it.

It’ll just happen.

All you can do is deal with it.

Face struggle head-on.

As Charlie Munger said in one of the last interviews before he died, just get through it.

He lost his 3-year-old when he was in his early 30s.

Passed away from leukemia.

It changed him forever.

As Munger says:

‘Soldier through.

If you soldier through, you can get through almost anything.

It’s your only option.

You can’t bring back the dead.

You can’t cure the dying child.

You can’t do all kinds of things.

You have to soldier through it.

Somehow you soldier through.

If you have to walk through the streets, crying for a few hours a day as part of soldiering, go ahead and cry away.

But you can’t quit.’

When you need to grieve, grieve.

When you need to cry, cry.

When you need to let it out, let it out.

But keep going.

Never quit.

Time heals all wounds.

Just stay in it.

Keep going.

Stay upright.

Keep showing up for yourself.

That’s all you can do when the storm is coming.

Control what you can and let everything else go.

Even when it pours.
