Thank you Jurgen:
Thank you Jurgen.
The man, the myth, the legend.
The man who changed Liverpool.
Who shaped a generation.
Who inspired millions.
Who was genuine, authentic and wore his heart on his sleeve.
For those who don’t know, Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager since 2016, coached his last game for the club yesterday.
It was emotional.
Had tears in my eyes sitting in an airport.
He changed how I saw Liverpool and my life.
Growing up, all my teams sucked.
The Raptors, Leafs, Jays, Ravens, and Liverpool.
From when I was born in ‘95 through my entire childhood, all my teams were trash.
The Toronto teams in particular were bad.
I didn’t see success till Kawhi and Masai brought the Raptors a title in 2019.
For 24 years, I didn’t see winning.
Liverpool was the same.
There were fleeting moments like the 2006 Final in Istanbul and a Carabao Cup here and there, but nothing substantial.
There were a few almosts.
Most notably, Gerrard’s slip against Chelsea in 2014 that cost us a title.
Klopp changed all of that.
With his geggen press, full-throttle style of football, he made Liverpool a behemoth.
He completely changed the culture.
Brought in players who are now superstars.
Salah, Van Dijk, Robertson, Allison, Trent.
And you can’t forget Firmino, Mane, Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Origi.
Players who changed everything for this club.
All names people didn’t know about before they joined Liverpool.
Now their names are etched in history.
Barcelona 4-0.
The Champions League title.
3 finals in a few years.
Won the premier league for the first time in 30 years.
All because of one man.
Mr. Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp is not for everyone.
He’s loud, boisterous, and intense.
But he was exactly what Liverpool needed.
He’s a hugger.
He’s got a great laugh.
He loves to poke fun at people.
But when it came down to business, his teams played at the highest level.
There are 14 90-point Premier League Seasons in history.
That’s at least 30 out of 38 wins.
7 of them were by Liverpool and City in the last few years, 4 from Pep at City and 3 from Klopp.
That’s a level of football that is next to impossible.
The intensity with which Liverpool played was beautiful to watch.
4 straight years, the man didn’t lose a game at home in the league.
4 years.
But it wasn’t just about wins and losses.
It was about so much more than that.
It was about belief.
And hope.
And never giving up no matter what happens.
So many people need that message in their lives.
And Jurgen provided that week in and week out for 8 years.
Danke Jurgen.
You’ve changed my life and inspired millions like me around the world to believe, work and keep going.
And don’t forget to smile along the way.
We go again.
Always and forever.
Love ya Jurgen.
