Enjoy the moments with friends:

Enjoy the moments with friends.

Got back from a bachelor party trip to Cancun and it was awesome.

Got to spend time with people I used to see every day for years.

Because we went to school abroad, we’re all located around the world.

We don’t see each other that often.

But when we get together, we always have a good time.

We make sure to because we know how special these moments are.

No one tells you this as a kid.

You don’t see your friends nearly enough as you do when you’re young.

Life gets in the way.

Spouses. Family. Relationships. A job.

It’s hard to fit friends in there.

But never forget them.

Never forget the ones who were there at the beginning.

Even then, people will come and go.

Show up for those who show up for you.

Keep people in your life who push you to be better.

No one has time for negativity in their life.

If you are around people that do, find new people.

You need people around you who are pushing themselves to be better.

It rubs off on you.

I got lucky going to medical school abroad where everyone around me was smart, but we loved to have fun.

My group knew medicine was a job. It wasn’t our lives. So we prioritized spending time outside of work.

Playing video games, going out, getting drunk, spending time with each other learning about each other’s stories, etc.

That’s what you remember most from university.

No one remembers the time they got 8 hours of sleep before an exam.

No one remembers that lecture in 2nd year learning about statistics or physics.

No one remembers the night they didn’t go out.

You remember the parties, the embarassments, and the fights.

The moments with friends where you figure out who you are.

I’m sad for those who don’t find those people.

I’m sad for those who choose not to pursue life outside of academics.

I grew up in an immigrant household so I knew that life my entire childhood.

But when you get to university, you’re on your own.

The goal of going to university should be to discover yourself.

What does that mean?

Figure out what you like. Learn about random things. Try different subjects. Show up at different interest clubs. Meet new people. Listen to people’s stories. Go to parties during the week.

Of course, you have to keep up with school so you can do all these things, but prioritize learning about yourself over learning the content for your degree.

University degrees are largely useless.

They don’t teach you enough skills for the real world.

Like how to cook. How to budget. How to make friends. How to set up a bank account. How to look for a house. How to work with people.

You don’t learn these things in a classroom.

So get out of your bubble.

Try something new.

Go find your tribe.

Find friends you can make memories with.

Invest in them. See who invests in you.

Sometimes you’ll have to eliminate people.

All good.

They’re not meant for you anyway.

But invest time in people.

Pay attention to who does it for you and who is pushing themselves to be better.

Think about the people you want when you’re in a tough situation.

The ones who’ve seen you at your worst and at your best, yet still love you for you.

Make memories with them.

Enjoy the moments with friends
