Day 868 - Day 358 Q - Mar.3.21 - show up when you don’t want to
Show up when you don’t want to. That’s one of the keys to success. You have to stay consistent no matter how unmotivated you are. You have to put in the work when you don’t want to because it’ll pay off down the road. Nadal said it best in his autobiography. The reason he wins is because he outlasts opponents. He outlasts them because he trains so hard. Everyone trains hard but Nadal talked about showing up even when you don’t want to. Writing when you’re too tired. Those reps over time will make you a better writer. It opens up your mind to new ideas and concepts you hadn’t thought about, but you have to be consistent. You have to show up for yourself. You have to make a pact that you won’t break with yourself and hold yourself accountable. As long as you do that, you can accomplish anything. Life happens every day but the real gains are made over time. You have to look at the world through your own lens that is rooted in learning more about people and the world than others. If you do that, you’ll see opportunities no one else sees. To do that, you have to do the work. Watched Li Lu’s speech at Columbia and it was fascinating. The concepts are simple but hard to implement because there’s no shortcut. You have to read and understand everything in order to get ahead and find opportunities where others aren’t looking even when they’re right in front of you. Keep learning and showing up when you don’t want to. Future you will thank the present you.
