Lanny Bassham

Summary

A sports psychology book on how to reshape the way you see yourself from a multiple time Olympic champion

Rating: 4/5

Notes

Winners are convinced they’ll finish first, others hope to finish first

When the conscious mind is quiet is when the subconscious can do it’s best work

Be process oriented, not outcome oriented

All great performances are accomplished subconsciously, without much conscious thought

Your conscious mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time

‘What you say is not important. What you ask yourself or others to picture is crucial’

The subconscious is the source of all mental power

The self-image moves you to do whatever the conscious mind is picturing

Self-image and performance are always equal. To change your performance, you must change your self-image

Good performance is easy when the conscious, subconscious and self-image are all aligned

Process is what you can control and only what you control. This can be defined and duplicated

Goal setting system

  • Determine a goal worth trading your life for
  • Decide when you want it
  • List the pay value
  • Honestly evaluate obstacles in the way
  • What is your plan to get to your goal

  • Schedule your plan
  • Start now
  • Prior to reaching your goal, always set a new one to take it’s place
  • Hold on till the end or trade up

The more we think about, talk about and write about something happening, we improve the probability of that thing happening

Do not spend time listening to the problems of others

Praise good performances and good performances will repeat

The self image cannot tell the difference b/w what actually happens and what is vividly imagined

Sometimes when your best is not good enough, you have to do whatever is required to win

The mental program for any repetitive shot:

  • The point of initiation
  • The point of alignment
  • The point of direction
  • The point of focus

Pressure is not something to avoid. It is something to use

DO NOT THINK ABOUT THE OUTCOME. THINK ABOUT THE PROCESS

Training produces skill and skill is developed in the subconscious mind

Make Something Wonderful
Steve Jobs

Summary

The life of Steve Jobs in his own words

Rating: 5/5

Notes

Make something wonderful and put it out there

‘You appear, have a chance to blaze in the sky, then you disappear’

When you’re a stranger in a place, you notice thing you don’t otherwise (Jobs after India trip)

Whenever you start with nothing, always shoot for the moon. You have nothing to lose.

You never achieve what you want without falling on your face a few times

Never be afraid to fail. You never achieve what you want without falling flat on your face a few times

We are never taught to listen to our intuitions, to develop and nurture them. But if you do pay attention to these subtle insights, you can make them come true

Creativity equals connecting previously unrelated experiences and insights others don’t see

Believe that some of what you follow with your heart will come back and make your life richer. And it will. And you will gain even firmer trust on your instincts and intuitions

Make your avocation your vocation. Make what you love your work.

The journey is the reward. The reward isn’t in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it’s in crossing the rainbow

To find A+ talent, if experienced, look at their track record and results

The world we know is a human creation and we can push it forward

The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do (read whole ad ‘here’s to the crazy ones)

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit - Aristotle

Hire people better than you are

You can’t plan to meet the people who will change your life

It’s impossible to connect the dots looking forward, but they make sense looking backwards so you have to trust the dots will somehow connect in your future

Everything around you that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you
